Because
We Care . . .
We want you to fully enjoy the beauty, durability, and the prestige
of ownership of the fine western hat in which you have invested.
Your
hat will continue to look great for years with the proper care right
from the start. Without it, a little mishap or neglect can quickly
ruin even the best hat.
Protect
Your Investment
Follow these suggestions for proper protection, handling and storage.
Handling
When putting on or removing your hat, hold the brim, front and back,
near the crown. Handle the crown as little as possible, and always
with clean hand. Any handling which causes flexing or bending of
the brim or crown will gradually weaken the body of your hat. The
more severe the flex or bend, the sooner the hat will lose its natural
ability to maintain its shape.
Storage
When storing your hat please remember the following rules:
- Don't
put pressure on the crown or brim as this may eventually cause
the hat to lose its shape. Instead, purchase a hat stand that
supports the hat's crown and keeps the brim from pressing against
any surface.
-
Store hats in a cool, dry environment. Hats naturally react to
heat and moisture, extended exposure can cause a hat to lose its
shape. Excessive heat can dry out straw hat fibers, and cause
permanent damage to both straw and felt. Moisture can cause loss
of shape, and mold or rot. Even a hat left in a hot car is likely
to suffer damage from heat and humidity.
-
During long periods when your hat is not worn, we suggest you
store your hat in a western hat box. Make sure the crown and brim
are properly supported.
Protection
Handle your hat with clean hands and wipe perspiration off the sweatband
on hot days. Brush your hat regularly with a brim brush to remove
dust and loose dirt. Starting at the left side of the hat, brush
counterclockwise around the hat, brushing the crown and brim the
same way; On the underside of the brim, brush clockwise.
Wet
Hats
If your felt hat gets wet or very sweaty, turn down the sweatband
and stand the hat on a clean level surface, right side up on the
sweatband. Let it dry naturally and slowly. Do not use heat to aid
drying as it will shrink the leather sweatband. Make sure the brim
does not rest on the surface. Pressure of any sort on a wet hat
will leave its mark when the hat dries.
If
a straw hat gets wet, first wipe off the surplus water with a clean-dry
cloth, then turn the sweatband out, and place on a clean level,
surface to dry. Turning out the sweatband after a perspiring day
preserves the life of your hat. With the band turned out, perspiration
and hair oil evaporate and dry out instead of being transferred
to the hat. Any hat soaked by rain
or otherwise, is likely to sustain water damage.
Cleaning
To clean a rain spotted hat, use a felt hat cleaning sponge. Use
a different set of brushes for light and dark colored hats, otherwise
there is a possibility of transferring color from the brush to the
hat. For really heavy dirt and stains we suggest you bring your
hat in for full service and cleaning. Straws can be kept clean and
fresh looking much longer if they are brushed regularly with a brim
brush or ordinary wisk broom. To clean, use a damp sponge with non-detergent
soap and lukewarm water. Let dry naturally.
